Signs of Male Infertility
With male infertility, other than the inability to conceive, the symptoms are often subtle. In many cases, men do not find out they are infertile until undergoing an evaluation. While aging doesn’t play as much of a role in male infertility as it does for women, being over the age of 40 can contribute. Men who are older typically don’t produce as much sperm or testosterone, a crucial sex hormone. Their sperm is also more likely to be lower in quality or have high levels of DNA defragmentation, which contributes to the risk of miscarriage.
That being said, there are a few signs and symptoms that can indicate a fertility issue in men. These include:
- Abnormal breast growth
- Reduced body and facial hair
- Erectile dysfunction
- Issues with ejaculation
- Changes in semen color, texture, or amount
- Testicular changes, including small, firm, swollen, painful, or tender testicles
If you’re struggling to conceive and/or experiencing any of the above symptoms, consider scheduling a consultation with a male infertility specialist as soon as possible. Only a semen analysis can give you real insights into your reproductive health.
