You can never say enough good things about the workplace contributions made by fertility nurses. They really are the backbone of any medical facility.

PCRM is heavily reliant on our own skilled team of fertility nurses to carry out the day-to-day healthcare functions at our clinics. Their compassion and amazing dedication to the welfare of our patients is second to none. And now, we can rightfully boast of their highly developed skills to the entire world.

Fertility nurses at PCRM awarded symbol of nursing excellence

If you ever visit the Nurses category of the Our Team section on PCRM’s website, you will notice a red and black emblem along with the words “A Symbol of Nursing Excellence.” This distinction is awarded to fertility clinics whose nurses (at least 50%) have completed training through the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). We are currently the only fertility clinic in Canada to have this honour.

The ASRM is a non-profit group committed to the advancement of education in the field of reproductive medicine. PCRM is a member of this prestigious organization, in addition to this country’s  Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS). Founded in 1944, ASRM’s multidisciplinary membership has been instrumental in developing many of todays standard fertility procedures, including donor insemination and in vitro fertilization. They play an active role in educating the general public while providing research and learning opportunities for fertility professionals. Their publishing efforts include peer-reviewed medical journals (Fertility and Sterility), newsletters (ASRM News, Menopausal Medicine), reports, educational bulletins, information booklets and patient fact sheets. In the United States, their efforts have introduced reproductive medical issues at state and federal levels. Centres for infertility and contraceptive research, along with programs supporting studies on menopause and women’s health, have all benefitted from ASRM’s assistance.

Traditionally there has been no standardized courses for nurses with an interest in fertility. Much of this specialized training occurs on the job. Patient monitoring and blood draws are certainly important aspects of the job, but so is teaching clients about the body’s physiology and coaching people through the various treatment options. The ASRM eLearn® Nurse Certificate Course involves 16 modules of specialized reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) training. The content is both theoretical and practical. Hundreds of nurses have successfully completed this course, including many at PCRM. Our clinic is pleased to provide this training for all of our nursing staff.

PCRM’s staff appreciates every opportunity they’re afforded to help aspiring parents. The road that eventually leads to fertility treatment can be a long and arduous one, fraught with stress and uncertainty. That’s why we are constantly striving to improve our services. We’re committed to being one of the most knowledgeable and advanced fertility clinics anywhere. Our affiliation with ASRM as a trusted international educational partner is just one of the ways we maintain our status as a leader in British Columbia’s fertility treatment community.
